MINISTER UMAHI: ROAD PROJECT CONTRACTORS to GET THEIR N1.5 TRILLION OUTSTANDING DEBT to FAST TRACK PROJECTS COMPLETION

Minister of Works has confirmed that outstanding debts of over N1.5 trillion delaying completion of several projects across the country will be cleared by President Tinubu’s administration.

The Minister, however, said contractors will have to verify their claims to actually show that they were truly owed.

-Six verification committees, one per zone, have been set up by the ministry for contractors to verify their claims as soon as possible.

-Such contractors are expected to approach the verification committee with evidence of their claims and how the debts were incurred from scratch.

-Payments will only be made to contractors after claims have been successfully verified.

-Bureaucratic obstacles hindering the swift processing of contractors’ certificates have been eliminated through the appointment of a dedicated desk officer to address the matter.

-Bottlenecks hindering the ministry from effectively tracking payments to contractors have also been removed.

-FG plans to commit the ministry to the delivery of 150km of federal roads in each state and the FCT.

-150 km of roads to be funded with the ministry’s budget do not include the special projects being undertaken by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Ltd and the private sector operators, among others.

-The 150km road per state, which would be 75km double lanes, is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
